Committee reports:
Breeder/Puppy Referral – Kathy reports that she is receiving about a dozen calls and e-mails a week. Anyone with litters or adults available should let her know.
Legislation – Neena reports that things are quiet on the State level. There is some activity at the National level and members should refer to her report for details. (below)
Legislative is quiet on state levels.
On national level AKC and HSUS are co-sponsoring a bill that introduces numbers of dogs sold or numbers of litters bred as the criteria to be subject to USDA inspections!@!!
Not a good idea in most folk’s opinions. AKC is getting a lot of flak on this (I wonder if it is more of a moneymaker for them - i.e. doing inspections). USDA does not have the manpower to do this.
And the way the current USDA rules are written for dealers (and that is what we could become) your home would have to be radically altered to conform. Most folks DO NOT WANT inspectors in their home. For more info go to adao.org, naia.org or akc.org and make up your own mind.
Then write your federal level senator and house members.
