Lana read her report that was published in the Fall/Winter 2004 Ovation. Full text can be read in the board minutes.
No report.
A motion was made by Bob Saffell and seconded by Cara Cole to accept the minutes from the November meeting as posted on the website. Motion approved.
The
The General Balance is $9,436.80 and the Rescue Balance is $8,874.80.
The new insurance policy has increased from $250 a year to
$600 a year. Officers of the club are
not covered under this new policy. A
rebate will be sent from the old insurance company covering the time period of
Dec. 8 through
Because we were going to lose our insurance due to our rescue program and we wanted to continue providing rescue, an emergency board decision was made to split the cost 50/50 between the general fund and the rescue fund. In the future, should rescue use its entire fund the general fund will be available to rescue. In the discussion that followed it was decided that we should pursue looking into different insurance policies over the next year to see if we can find a policy that suits our needs, but at a lower premium.
An audit was completed on the 2004 books and found to be in order. Marilyn Midkiff completed the audit.
Committee Reports:
Activities: no report
Awards: no report
Breeder Referral: Kathy confirmed names of members who have puppies or adults available. It was decided to develop a resource tool to have a consistent/team approach for referrals on this committee. There was a brief discussion about inquiries and if the time of year puppies are available is an important aspect of why it is sometimes difficult to find good homes.
Education: no report
Judges Selection: There were some questions about the way the ballots/envelopes were sent out and for the next voting it was decided to use the method used by the PWCCA, an envelope inside an addressed envelope.
The
Lea Jacobs is sending Nancy Oehlhof an updated list to put on the website. Lea asked for input on judges.
The
A discussion followed and Marilyn Midkiff will ask if we can be released from the Thursday show in which case we might be able to hold an independent specialty in 2006. It was also suggested to look into being released on Friday or perhaps holding a specialty on Monday.
Lana asked that members send suggestions via e-mail regarding ideas for 2006.
A motion was made by Lea Jacobs, seconded by Bob Saffell, that we support Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the
fall
Legislative: no report
Librarian/Historian: Robin had a flood and it ruined all the books in the library. If there will be no harm or financial burden on Robin, and if her insurance will pay for the books, they will be replaced at Robin’s discretion. It was decided that we did not need to have the Beagle and Mastiff books replaced.
Membership:
First reading for Gerald Kyle and Bruce Coyne.
First reading for Kristie Sarafolean.
First reading for Lucy Clem.
OVation:
PWCCA Rep: Regional Talebearers column is changing in the PWCCA
newsletter. It will have to be a
specific size, with one extended column once a year.
Rescue: Kathy Shannon read a report from Neena Van
Camp. The highlights are: OV Rescue was busy over the past year. Rescue took in 36 dogs, beating the old
record of 34. Two of the dogs were put down for health reasons. Several members over and beyond the rescue
committee were able to help with transportation and temporary fostering of
dogs. There are currently four dogs in
rescue: Andy, a red headed tri male who
is ready to place, Jeffery, a sable and white male who is ready to place,
George a red headed tri who is not ready to place yet, and Princess, a red
headed tri, ready to place.
Carra Cole suggested that we put photos and bios of
rescue dogs available on the website.
Foster homes are always
needed.
Lana reiterated that there was never any intent to punish
rescue or the committee members who work so hard. The new insurance policy has increased
from $250 a year to $600 a year.
Officers of the club are not covered under this new policy. A rebate will be sent from the old insurance
company covering the time period of Dec. 8 through

Trophies: going ahead as planned
Ways and Means: no report

Fisher’s mother and Gail Kubovchik.

Unfinished Business and General Orders:
2005 Puppy Match will be
held at Joyce Park site #18. It will be
the Saturday of the Memorial Day weekend.
Carra Cole is looking for a judge and asked OV
members if anyone wanted to judge the match.
Other sites can be suggested where it might be less crowded.
Election of officers:
A motion was made by Carra Cole,
seconded by Kathy Shannon to accept all positions as written except for the
Presidency. Motion approved.
The members voted for president.
The results were:
3 votes for Neena Van
Camp
13 votes for Lana
Jorgensen
2005 Specialty: JoAnn has made the corrections to the premium list. There will be 1st place only for
stud dog/brood bitch classes. There will
be 1st through 4th for all veteran classes. Remember, at an all breed show, veterans in
regular classes can not be spayed or neutered.
They can be for sweepstakes classes.
JoAnn showed us the bags she is using for sweepstakes and
we got to see the beautiful quilt that Kathy Shannon is making. A picture will be put on the website. Silent Auction items are being accepted. Gail Kubovchik is
the contact for tours and Adrienne Saffell is the
contact for dinner reservations. Get
your hotel reservations in soon!
PWCCA Charitable Trust:
Adrienne talked about the PWCCA
Charitable Trust. It is a not for profit
trust that is not under the auspices of the PWCCA. The trust is comprised of three parts: The
Miner-Eischmann Fund, the Canine Health Fund and the
General Fund. Although this trust is not
regulated by the PWCCA, the funds generated do benefit the Pembroke Welsh
Corgi.
The Miner-Eischmann Fund was formed about two years ago when, after
the death of Mary Miner, her friend Mr. Gayle Eischmann
wanted to do something for our corgis that he has come to love, having had two
of his own from Mary. He generously
donated $10,000 and his company matched his donation. This money would be used to fund scholarships
to veterinary students doing research regarding the PWC. Only the interest generated from this fund is
used for the purposes designated by Mr. Eischmann.
For two years now the
PWCCA Genetics Committee has generated funds through its Christmas
ornaments. This year’s artist is Linda Ozelis. The income
generated is a donor-designated fund.
The general fund of the
Charitable Trust is a fund from which bank charges, fees and administrative
costs are deducted. This is also the
Fund into which the PWCCA contributes $50 on the death of a PWCCA member.
A $300 donation to the
General Fund makes you the recipient of “Trusty,” a bronze figurine.
Brags were made and the
meeting adjourned at
